Folks,

My rocker assembly has a cracked pedestal and a fair bit of wear. Rather than repair/rebuild it I took the lazy option and ordered a set of 1.3 Roller Tip Rockers from MiniSport. Since then I’ve found a lot of 2 year or older posts on this forum berating the (1.5 and 1.7) rockers from MiniSport… and MiniSport in general.

Note: I don’t want this topic to develop into another “bash MiniSport” thread!

What I would like to know is what is the quality of those 1.3 roller tip rockers like these days? Do they still suffer from premature cracking of the rocker shaft? If so is there any way I can replace/upgrade the shaft (e.g. with MiniSpares heavy duty shaft)?

Cheers,
Colin.

FYI… my old assembly is not roller tip... it uses pressed steel top welded 1.3 ratio rockers (I kind of like them). I don’t particularly need roller tips, but the MiniSport item seemed to be the most cost effective way of replacing them (be they standard or roller tip assemblies).

not heard of anything bad about the quality of there rockers (i have the 1.5's) but they aren't going to do anything to your engine a set of standard rockers wouldn't do for their extra money

they will give you about 0.5 more valve lift and a bit less valve stem ware

Thanks for the reply Bungle - very reassuring :)
The only reason I chose these roller tip rockers is because my cam works best with 1.3 ratio... and I couldn't find anyone selling standard 1.3 rocker assemblies.

There are rumors about everything coming from minisport..like rockers, camshafts etc..
Dont warry about rumors and ask directly to people, like you're doing now.
I know for sure that at ML motorsport they use minisport 1.3 roller rockers, so quality shouldnt be bad.
I'm getting a set too, as i need to replace my worn sintered rockers and at minisport price is quite good..
Standard rocker ratio is in the 1,21/1,22 range, while i read somewhere that the minisport 1,3 rollers are actually 1,27.
Dont expect any mega power boost, but this is about the optimal ratio, a good thing for optimal performance without putting too much extra stress, plus rollers saves valves from side loading and they're a bit lighter also.

It's reassuring to know that ML use them... especially since the cam I fitted came from them (an AC Dodds 'ACD-RS+').

They are what I have and I dont have any problems, done thousands of miles. As said, they ensure you get the valve lift claimed by the cam grinder- well a bit more probably.

They are basically the proper parts for the job, where standard rockers are a compromise. Because price was a factor on std equipment there was no roller tips, that means more friction and side loading of the valve stems in the guides, which roller rockers eliminate. As already said, dont expect any real performance gains, it's only racing where you could notice any difference and your valve guides won't wear as much with them fitted.

I had a set of rockers from mini sport and they broke twice so they went in the bin. I now have the 1.5 LD rockers from MED
