Been faffing with my mini lately, tidying it up and all the rest. I'll be having people in the back (to and from college) soon, so i wanted to install the rear seatbelts i have lying around.

Only problem is, its a '76, and at that time rear seatbelts in a mini were unheard of. I just had the rear pillar trim off and theres no rear seatbelt mounting point (as i feared) so i cant mount them like i would in my later minis.

Any idea what im going to have to do?

I assume im going to have to weld bolts onto the pillars and seats?

Sack giving mates lifts, I made mine a two seater just for that very reason!
and other than welding bolts to the pillars, would it look neater to fit some lap belts which you coulkd mount somewhere more descreet so it looks tidyer ?

Well well the point is, is that ive got three point belts that are ready to go in, i just need to mount them.

If i didnt want to give people lifts i would have just bought a triumph spitfire or mg midget, because ironically i could get hold of one cheaper than the mini!

And anyway, lifts = petrol money.

When rear seatbelts were first introduced to the range, the parts added to the saloon were also made available as a kit to retro fit to earlier models. This kit is still available from Somerford. A few small welds and some holes in the rear bulkhead and trim panels, touch up some paint and you're done. Also available are the triangulation pieces fitted to the rear seatbelt shoulder mounts from 1995 onwards to reinforce them, but what you won't be able to get is the innertia reel mounting also fitted from 1995 into the rear bin.

Rear Seat Belt Mounting Kit
In order to fit rear seat belts to pre-1995 Minis not already so equipped, mounting points will have to be fitted. Somerford Mini takes the strain out of working out what needs to be welded to the car's body with this money-saving kit including all required original factory mounting brackets (seat brace sides x 2, seat brace centre and C post x 2). Use of these brackets enables two rear seat belts to be fitted without the need to alter or change interior trim in the rear of your Mini.
38 SBMK001 REAR SEAT BELT MOUNTING KIT 1 Includes all required original mountings ready to weld into car body. £81.68

Had a similar idea earlier, though no idea you could buy it.

I had a brainwave, because i have a shell lying around that i dont really need that i can steal the mounting panels from, but for anyone else, the above is great.

Thankyou for all your help!
