Hiya guys, this is my first topic her apart from saying hello :proud:

My block is at the engineers at the moment getting work done, but they have asked me if I could get any dimensions for drilling into the oil galleries for the undercrown cooling jets as they are worried about going through the side of the block, where it shapes inwords if you see what I mean?

I have supplied them with a picture I found on turbophils website and another on turbominis but they just want anything extra to help..

Is there a risk of drilling into the water jacket around the bores where the jets go?

Any help will be great,
Cheers,

Rich

What type of jets are you using? I used BMW ones on mine and drilled them for M8 (can't remember the tapping drill and it's a fine thread if I recall correctly), and inside that at around a 35 - 40 degree angle I drilled into the oil way with around a 3mm drill, I think it's about 10-15mm deep until you go into the oilway.

I did it a fair few months ago though so my memory is not perfect!

Yh I am using the BMW ones, thanks for the info.
So there shouldnt be a problem with drilling into any water jackets around the bore that you know of?

Cheers

you're pretty safe, the tread in the block needs to be approx 10mm maybe a bit less. I went to a 15mm deep drilled hole on my last block. if you say go to 1/2" they you will me plenty safe.

also if this is being done in a mill get them to chomp away a bit of the block so the jet fits a bit further away from the bore, the small hole for the oil gallery will then end up vertually straight and will be easier to drill.

the pics in the above link say it all really.

once fitted expect oil pressure of about 30 psi at idle when hot, this is about what the little valve is set to in the bolts.

Can you not drill the mains and have holes pointing towards the piston instead?

Hiya guys,

thanks for all the replies, I printed off the pics on the link and the info you guys have given and took it to the engineer today which he read and seemed a lot more confident in doing the job now he knows he is not giong to drill through something on the way down and how far to go..

Thanks guys
