'Lo folks,

Before I go messing with the eletrical systems, just wanted to ask this question...

I want to fit a cigarette lighter socket to power a mobile phone charger, and was wondering if it was really neccesary - could I not just cut the adapter off the charger and wire it to the fuse box?

Does this sound daft?

Fit a lighter socket or power point, it's easier in the long run (like if you change your phone or want to power something else). Which Mini do you have?

fit a lighter socket can be handy, obviously if your a smoker you always have a light.
but also like you have said phones can be charged, also car vacuums, polishers for paint etc... theres lots of things u can use it for. so just install the lighter socket instead of cutting stuff up.

Cheers for that Dan & THedooBZ (gotta refresh before I post a reply), I suppose it does make more sense - like you say if I change ma phone then I have to re wire the in car charge.

I have a 1992 Mini City, 1275cc engine (as soon as it get in it!!).

Ive got a wood dash and didnt really want to go drilling holes in it justgot a cigarette ligher socket so i found out that was like an extension. Plug on one end of a spireled bit of wire and socket on the other end. I chopped the plu off and joind the wires into the positive and earth for my stereo.

Depending on if you want it to work all the time or just when the ignition is on you need to wire it into either the constant feed that your stereo has to stop it loosing the preprogramed channels or if you want it to go off when the turn the ignition off then wire it into the one that is only on when the ignition is.

I now have a cigarette lighter socket in my glove box so if i want to charge something its all out of sight

'Lo folks,

Don't know if anyone has already done a guide to fitting ciggy lighter - but I'd like to do one.

I've finally got my hands on a socket and i'm gonna be wiring it in this weekend, so I'll take piccies and write some blurb.

Hopefully it will make sense. ;D

Ta 4 now
