How's it given up the ghost? Apart from actually locking the steering everything else is done by the ignition barrel which can be replaced separately.

Hi Ethel the key just falls out and the spring dosn't pop the lock back out after you push the key to start it and the steering lock dosn't lock. It was returned like this after bodyshop repairs but can't proove it could have been the transport guys anybody at all who touched it really they had it for 2.5 months so now I cant find a replacement for this early mk3

It won't help you find a replacement, but if the bodyshop hired the transport the car is still their responsibility. Does the key turn on any of the electrics as it should?
There are companies that advertise car lock services online, the lock's not supposed to be a serviceable item but you have nothing to lose by asking or even having a go yourself - having the key helps. Otherwise, I guess you'll have to look for a 2nd hand one

The bodyshop would be responsible for your car until you accepted back, taking back the keys and removing it from their workshop would suffice in the absence of any paperwork if it was collected at your arrangement. If they arranged the delivery they should still carry the can.
There's a couple on Ebay though.

Thanks DILLIGAF that is the lock, but it isn't highlighted in blue so i guess that is no longer available
Ethel the mini was delivered back on a truck and I signed a form saying it was ok but didnt see the lock till a couple of days later as the battery was flat I then pushed it into my garage so missed it so would now feel that I was on the make if I asked them to reinburse me now as prooving that it was them would be very hard to do but thankyou very much for your input so far
