I'm not sure if anyone on ere can help me, but I've got a problem with my rover 25, basically, I start it up, let it warm up for like 30 seconds, then start driving, then after about 30 seconds, (possibly when it brings itself off choke or coldstart?) the engine loses all power and starts popping and runs lumpy, and won't rev, if i keep my foot flat to the floor it eventually clears, it doesn't put any lights up on the dashboard when it does it, anyone got any ideas?

I don't think it's the filter, it only does it once, and then it's fine for the rest of the day. It's a strange one...

changed the fuel filter on it tonight, started it up, let it idle for about a minute, took i out for a spin, and it still had its funny turn, so that eliminates that one.

Tps? I did change that over when I changed the throttle bodies, as the last throttle body was faulty, but it had been doing the same thing before I changed the throttle body.

temp sensor needs reading on a scanner and 'comparing' to the injection times I know a few people that have had the exact same problem on the 1400k in different cars... in some cars the won't go over say 40 for the first 3 miles... crazy things like that. Sometimes it ends up being ECU related

I know somebody that could check it for you if you PM me Sam... maybe I can get him to come to the next club meet or something :)

I had a similar thing on a toyota, started up fine, ran fine until warm then started hesitating popping and had to nurse the pedal to get smooth running, turned out the 'cat' was burning up, but it did have a cat warning light, not sure if you got a warning light for that? have you got an emissions tester at work?

Nope, no warning light, and we don't have an emission tester at work, but I do have access to one, what should I be looking for when I plug it into one?

I actually don't know? I mean it was getting hot so maybe there was alot of unburnt fuel going through? it was a non turbo fresh import from japland so maybe the grade of fuel was wrong compared to what it was used to running? All I ended up doing was to fill up some optimax/ultimate and all was fine.....Has this only started recently? if so was it right after a visit to the pumps?

Just did a quick search over on 16v and like Craig said temp sensor came up alot, I think the words 19mm spanner and breakers were mentioned aswell :D

I bought it off a guy at work, and it'd been doing it since he bought it, like a year ago, but as it never completely died on him he didn't do anything about it, other than basic checks. Seeing as we only deal with classic cars at work, none of us have any great knowledge of modern cars.

Well after what Craig suggested and what I've been reading on the internet, I decided to blame the funny problem on the engine coolant temperature sensor, so went out and bought a brand new one, haven't fitted it yet, but shall do tommorow evening, hopefully it sorts it out.
