Hi all, I know that this isn't exactly the correct section but I'm hoping that you guys can help.

I bought an old Accord (Y reg) to do me while the mini is off the road thinking it'd be a nice reliable barge, but of course it's broken down.

The engine is an f series (F20) vtec and has about 118k on it, it was working perfectly until yesterday when it just refused to start. It's cranking but not even trying to start. It's got spark and fuel seems to be getting to the cylinders (I could smell it from the plugs when I removed them). I've checked the fuses and they're fine too.

I'm not really sure what else I can check before having to get it taken away and looked at by someone more qualified.

I hope someone can help as I want to save the £s for the mini.

Hard to say really, is this a hot start problem?

I would start with the basics, has the battery got enough oomph? enough fuel (gauge faulty) pull the injector plugs off and on again, have a fiddle with things......

Crank position sensor?

Yes could be timing slipped and not sparking at the right time

I didn't know that could happen!

No warning lights on, crank position sensor had been suggested on another forum, any way I can test? Someone mentioned something about connecting something next to my ecu with a paper clip and counting the number of times my engine management light, but I didn't really understand what they meant, anyone have any ideas?

I've got petrol in the car, got plenty battery (just recharged) plugs weren't wet or oily. So it's looking like an electrical problem of some kind.

They mean to bridge the connection together then switch on the ignition and count the dash lights, usually its something like 1 long flash is 10 and 1 short flash is 1, put the numbers together and check the list of fault codes (there always online somewhere)

Just been doing a search and found theres a Top dead center sensor, crank position sensor and camshaft position sensor, if you got a single wire heading into the timing belt cover then thats the crank position sensor, I think the others are housed inside the dizzy cap? The dizzy itself is notorious on hondas the same as a mini....

Thanks kam, I'll give that a go this evening when I'm home if it stays dry.

Ok, so after much looking at my car and the internet I've discovered that post 96 hondas don't ave the 2 pin port I was looking for. They have obd II ports. Apparently jumping 2 of these will make the dash diagnostic work, but I don't know what'll happen if I connect the wrong two. For US cars is wires 8 and 13, but my port doesn't have a wire connected to either. So I need a diagnostic machine.
