Well pulling out of the drive and BANG, massive noise and the car just slumps to one side, i didnt think it was a puncture because i knew there was a rumour that fiesta springs snap at the front so getting out and checking i could see it was clearly the suspension as it was no long on the mount haha.

The neighbours daughter had the same problem in her car but i just thought it was fluke but noooo

snappedy snap bang *hands in head* *cry* hahaha

Its a 2005 3 door ford fiesta 1.25

Now i thought ford was good but this had put a downer on my big passion for fords

My options are
WELL I HAVE TO REPAIR IT :P

do i

Buy just the one new spring
Or replace them all for good sake?
Buy coilovers and slam that bad boy?
Buy a reproduction spring slap it in and sell the bugger?
AND ANY IDEA WHERE TO BUY ALL THIS? ahah
Im so glad it wasnt at speed though

your opinions are very welcome

I would buy a reproduction spring set if the standard items are prone to snapping, and get some uprated springs instead, they are cheaper depending on brand than the originals. Do you have a spring compressor? they are really quite easy to replace.

Good luck

Just looked on lots of ford forums and there is TONNES of storys of peoples car just at a standstill and the spring goes, never in motion, so thats real weird

Twisty thank you for your reply

i have a litrally 5 seconds next to me and if i can lift it out of the gravel some how. They will let me borrow the spring compressor.

I dont know if its worth just replacing them all. peace of mind so at 70mph i dont slam into someone when another brakes

on almost all cars at some point coil springs snap its very common with all makes. if i were you id buy a pair of springs and replace them both, then sit back a enjoy the ownership.

you need to replace the springs in pairs, and can get away with doing just the fronts as long as you dont drop the ride height, otherwise it will handle like a pig and look like a wedge of cheese.

if its just the spring that snapped i would just replace them as the damper should still be fine to re-use, unless it looks a bit rough, or is leaking.

The reason i referred to the car looking like a block of cheese is because when i owned my old R5 turbo i changed the front springs and dampers for some lowered versions and not adjusted the rear torsion bar so the front was low and its ass was way up in the air and looked like a wedge of cheese.

I then lowered the rear bar and all was well.

YES she is on gravel and i cant move her because thats running the risk of piercing the tyre with the broken spring

This happened to me on a peugeot 406. The car spring broke during the night (was fine day before) got to it in the morning and the car wouldn't move because the broken spring had jammed the wheel! Replaced both front ones just to be safe =]

143 quid for two springs! Are they genuine ford ones or something?
