well basically i have braught the turbo set up off a metro turbo, so T3 turbo, i would be getting help from my dad as his welding is much neater than
mine when making a manifold etc, but he recommended a supercharger originally and is telling me to scrap the idea because of cutting into the bulk head (what a nob ay!)

i do like the idea of a supercharger but there so bloody expensive ( well the M45 ones off a mini anyway) and wondered if anyone could recommend another model supercharger that would work well if there are any out there, or show me some pictures of a bulkhead modified for a T3 or explain to me the complications! my budget for a supercharger unit on its own would be roughly 200quid, dont mean to sound a tight arse but having other bits to buy yet and a 21st birthday coming up , this is something i really want to do and i think selling the turbo itself, keeping the carb and putting any money plus the 200quid towards a supercharger would probably be the more realistic option

oh and the engine is a 998 a+ that has done 29k miles

so please please please upload some photo's (or send me a link to a build thread) for the bulk head

or recommend another supercharger unit to use

Have you concidered a T2 turbo and mirage manifold? Smaller turbo, better for the A series amd the mirage manifold means you dont need the bulk head mod. It "just" fits.

Playing with the idea myself

i havent come across any renault gt5 turbo's and i dont know what else uses a T2, or T25? anyone recommend what to look out for? i would make my own manifolds because i could just get flanges cut on the waterjet at work and do the welding and stuff myself or get me old man to do it

thanks for the pics! dont you need to brace the car up or anything to cut the the bulkhead for clearance? and what about when you carpet the other side or whatever you do to trim it, dont you need any heat protection or something? got any photo's from the inside? dad was moaning about dvla issues when you tell them youve modded the bulkhead personally i wouldnt declare it, but obviously declare the turbo for insurance, i think hes just being too paranoid (the nob)

well just checked ebay and found 2 but both are kind of unknown condition and both say they have minimal play, i read that turbos should have no play what soever as when they spin at something like 20k RPM a couple of thou play either side can have a strong effect, but then again would a turbo rebuild kit eliminate this? (because buying a second hand turbo would probably need one anyway) or would i need a complete new core?

There are lots of turbos that you can use and will fit behind the engine with no bulkhead mods required.

The T2 is well known, but now not so easy to get hold of. I use an IHI RHF4, which can be found for reasonable money, they were fitted to Subaru Legacys, as well as lots of other stuff.

Also the Garrett GT1544 or 48 is relatively easy to get hold of and will work, the 48 is pretty much the same spec as a T2.

In every way a turbo is better than a supercharger.

Don't forget you'll want an intercooler.

T2's and T25's are different, some are the same fitment wise but as with T2's not all are the same. Silvia's over here have got T28's which is the same flange wise as a T2, at least my s14a is anyway :)
