Does any one know where i can get my cylinder head cleaned.... Im not talking about having the head skimmed but having all the hard to reach places ( Inside the head ) like where the valves sit etc. Or does any one have any good ideas how to do it myself. Thanks

Hi, on the face use some wet and dry paper to clean it up, use a sanding block and always sand it flat to avoid any sealing issues, as the the insides just use some cotton buds on sticks and clean them out same for oil ways etc, Also tooth brushes are good for scrubbing them clean, just use a degreaser to loosen hard carbon deposits.

Get a litre of too of petrol and soak it in that.

B&Q also do some acidic metal cleaner which works really well!

There are 2 or 3 cheapskate ways that I've heard of to clean a head - please note I have NOT tried any of these so can't vouch for how well they will work.

1) Home made cheap acid bath: For acid read vinegar. Buy 5 or 10 litres of vinegar from the supermarket. Get a cat litter tray or seed tray, put the head in and pour vinegar over it until it is covered. Leave it in there for a week. Apparently it will get rid of a LOT of rubbish inside the head and will clean off most stuff.

2) Home made cheap alkali bath. This is cheaper still but perhaps a bit more harmful so wear gloves. Get some Caustic Soda from the supermarket, mix up a fairly strong solution and do the same as the vinegar bath. Works pretty well too so I'm told. Rinse well before handling!!

3) Bung it in the dishwasher (and don't tell your wife/girlfriend/mum). This will make it nice and clean but won't necessarily get rid of the deposits. If you get caught you will be in big trouble ;D

Just get some de-greaser and clean off the grease, then some small wire brushes to clean out the combustion chambers. Dig any 'grot' out of the inlet & exhaust tracts with a thin screwdriver and wash out thoroughly.
Remember, it will be dirty again soon after you run it.

I cleaned mine up with white spirit and some petrol, I used those green pads your mum does the washing up with.

I was high as a kite from all the fumes though.
