Hi guys,

I fitted a new I.C.E system into my mini a few week backs and its been awesome so far, it consists of

fusion components up front powered by a rampage amp

and

12 inch JL audio sub with kenwood amp :)

so the problem.......

the sub box that the sub was in was just a temp box until i made the new solid proper one :)

so i took the old box out today, and i didnt have time to put the new one in, but when i turned the radio back on so just the front components were working, there was a crackle whenever the radio is on with the engine running :( what i find strange is that when the engine isn't running and the radio is on, its perfect again :(

anyone have any ideas :)?

my dad said it was the dizzy condenser, but i've got a metro electronic dizzy!

thanks

Nick

Cracking or whine??
Could be the age old alt whine.

Which is all due to grounding issues.

Ground the head unit as close as possable.
Check all your grounds are solid and check with a muliti meter. You should see close to the same voltage as if you take a reading directly off the battery terminals. Do the test with the car running.

Also are you running R spark plugs? This are resistor type, this cleared all the 'noise' I had with my carb mini,

When you say took your sub out did you disconnect the wires from the amp end or are they laying loose wherer the sub was? Have you added an engine block to chassis earth?

i've heard of this before, my friend had it on his mk2 escort. it's caused by interference from the engine and you can buy something to stop it from doing it.. not very helpful i know but i'm sure someone will know what im talking about!! :withstupid:

laying loose where my sub was, but taped up. and i took the remote cable off the big amp so that that amp doesn't even come on.

however i have my rca's going into this amp and then straight back out again, so does my big amp need to be on for it to give a nice signal or something :s?

cheers for the help so far guys

It is possible so give it a try. Does your H/U only have 1 set of RCA's (left & right channel)? If it has 2 or more why aren't you running a set of RCA's to each amp?

yeah it only has one set of rca outputs, but on the big amp, it has an rca in and rca out so you dont have to use splitters(or thats what i beleived anyway)

so basically i've got and rca cable(ie the two cables but i'll just call it the rca cable) from radio to big amp, then another new rca cable going from big amp to small amp :)

i'll take a photo soon to show you :)

Hang on... So the RCA's first go in to an amp then via the out to the second amp.

So are you saying the first amp was not on??

It will have to be on to work as a pass through!

Or while you are not using it just go straight to the second amp.
