hi guys
im after a new replacement radiator for the mini
the engine is a 998 which has a few mods such as a cam, head, exhaust, inlet etc
was looking at a minispares 3 core radiator or an upgraded core from a local radiator firm (works out £20 dearer)
my question is would a 3 core be fit for anything other than a standard engine?
i cant stretch the budget to a two core rad so it has to be either the 3 core or a recore

thanks

Heard good thing about 2 core rads and especially the bigger alloy rads.
I use the 3 core on the rally car, and i have no electric fan,no issue at all.
The 3 core was fitted to cooper s cars by the way, it should be good enough for a small bore..

You don't need anything other than a standard radiator for the power that you have, the biggest mistake and yes I have seen "so called" experts do thias well is to fit the fan the wrong way around :(

the car was overheating before we stripped the engine for a rebuild. i never got to check the old thermostat so hopefully with a new thermostat and a radiator flush it should be fit for the job.
just out of interest what temperature of thermostat would you recommend?
ive been told its better to get a hotter one as the fuel burns better? but surly wouldnt a colder one help with engine cooling?

what do you think of it in comparrison to a standard rad?

Probably one of the best rads you can get, before you spend mega money on an expensive alloy rad, is the Mini Spares 2 core rad. A lot of people and I mean a lot of people are using it. However as MRA has said a fully functional standard rad should be more than enough for your spec?

Correct, get a 88° thermostat for a modified engine (yousaid you have cam, head, etc..) because unleaded fuel needs higher temperatures to work properly.
A colder thermostat wont aid cooling, just make the warm up time longer, and if you have a cooling problem, the car will overheat with whatever thermostat you got.
