Right..

So I took everything apart to degrease, clean and refurb and now I've come to the putting them back together stage.

The pot joints went to plan.. they are in and ready to be re-greased and have the rubber cup fastened down (after they've been passed through the subframe) but I'd like someone to double check to make sure the bearing cage is facing the right way, the tapered end should face towards the pot joint, as far as I'm aware.

It all sits in without the bearings..

But add the bearings (this is the other side hence why the middle part (unsure of the name) has a different step to it.

There is no way in hell that will tap in with a rubber mallet..

Am I missing a trick? I've been swearing at it for long enough now!

In the lower most pic, the bearing balls don't sit in their recesses far enough. They have to go all the way in so they will no longer fall out. If the joint is well worn, this can be done with the thumb. Might be an idea to replace them, in this case. The cage is the right way around, though (as in the first pic).

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

I have to slightly disagree with you there! The first picture shows the inner part of the joint installed on the driveshaft and is the correct way round. Like this:

However, the image where you are dropping it in to the joint is all backwards. You've got the inner member inside the ball cage the wrong way round, I think.

I do agree that the balls need to be pushed all the way home before it'll even dream of going back in the pot though.

Oh, the second pictures are on about CV's?

You should mention the change of topic in your post, it looks 99% like a pot joint from that angle.

Haha, sorry!

Got that mixed up too. Still, the balls look like they should go further in:)
