Heloo!!

I'm having some leaky problems with my sun roof. As the title says its a Webasto glass titling sunroof with the twist handle.

It was fitted from new as its on a 1990 rover cooper (RSP)

It seams to be leaking on the twist handle edge on the drivers seat. so rear right had corner (if you where sitting in the drivers seat). and coming from between the glass and the seal.

Does anybody have any solutions for fixing leaks from the rear corners?

I have found that Somerford minis stock the seals for these sunroofs, is it a case of just replacing the seal or can it be fixed by other means, like bending the hinges a bit? :D AND is it a straight forward job to replace the seal if i do have to go down that route?

I also have and RSP and I find that I have to press down on the glass from the outside whilst tighening the wheel to get a really good seal, which is a PITA as you can't do it when driving. I've not bothered trying to change the seal but I do spray it with silicone every now and then to help lubricate it.

ah right i'll try the pressing down, and just never open it again! :D
But I might try fiddling with the hinges to see if i can get it to go down a little further!

Before going for a new seal, consider buying a new set of hinges as the metal becomes corroded and fatigued over the years, with the hinges loosing their ability to pull the glass down and compress the seal as well. Whilst it is possible to make some adjustments by bending the hinges upward slightly, I wouldn't recommend "fiddling with" them unless they are new. They will have become brittle over the years and they are likely to snap if you try and adjust them in this way (I found this out the hard way!! >_< ).

Depending on the design of the sunroof handle (as there were a few different designs over the years), I understand that it is also sometimes possible to add a couple of washers to where the handle bolts into the surround. Thereby giving the handle a little extra leverage to pull the glass down against the seal. I haven't tried this myself, but have heard of others that have had some success with it.

We have two RSPs (one from new) and they do leak now and then, but in a manageable way! ;) Are you on the RSP Forum – if not, join it as they will probably be able to answer most RSP questions. http://www.rsp-cooper-register.co.uk/
