Hi all,

I have a 1997 Rover Cooper.

I had a search around as to how to work out what's wrong with my fuel guage, since it always reads empty.

I found the tests you could do to work out whether it was the voltage stabalizer, or the actual fuel sender unit.

When I bridged the two fuel sender unit wires, the gauge went straight to full.

However, when I put a connection between the battery earth terminal, and the green and black wire for the fuel sender unit, the fuel gauge did not go to full. I'm not sure whether my connection was proper, because I was using a long jump lead, and a length of solder.

If the test was accurate, and it turns out that the earth wire to the sender unit is faulty, what can I do about it? Is it a definitive answer that the fuel sender unit is working, but the earth wire isn't, or do both of the tests I did suggest that there is something wrong with both the fuel sender unit AND the earth wire?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Simon.

If you bridged the two fuel sender wires, and the fuel gauge went to full then I'd say it's fairly conclusive that you have a faulty sender unit.
