Finally made a decision with what I'm gonna do regarding audio!

My plan is:

1. Buy comps for front under dash speaker pods, attatched to dash rail as i won't drill holes in my little mini!!
2. Cut 2 MDF rings to mount speakers on.
3. Make some back plates out of MDF and use dowels to attatch the ring to the back board.
4. Cover it in this fibre glass stuff you all talk of!
5. Cover it in carpet.

Now the questions:

Which comps? Need to be as cheap as they can without losing quality. I think I want 6.5"' but if I can get away with smaller without it being quiet (as will have sub in boot) then that's good

Which fibre glass stuff? I've never used this stuff before so don't know what I need, preferably be able to buy it from a shop but if needs be i will order online.

Any tips?

Cheers guys

If your only going to be making pods then the large fiberglass kit you can get from Halfords should have enough stuff in it to do the job.
As for tips when you cover the MDF use an old cotton t-shirt, stretch it over & gun staple it in place, mix up your fiberglass resin & apply it over that then lay the fiberglass matting over it once the first layer of material is hard. You should do 2-3 layers of mat over the material. (There should be plenty of Youtube vid's on fiberglassing to watch on this)
Once you have the fiberglass shell then use easy-sand or quick-sand filler to smooth it over before covering it in carpet. Remember with filler you can build it up in layers, dont wack a big gloopy layer on as it will take ages to sand down flat.
6.5's are best but if you want smaller than 5.25's will do. Go for a good brand like Hertz, focal, JL audio etc as buying cheap gear is a false economy because you will want to upgrade to a better quality later. I have 1 set of 6.5's up front & a 10" sub & that is all (+2 amps)& my system was judged 1st equal at the SMD'11 so that's all you need really, no point in spending lots on speakers all over the place when all you need is quality gear & good speaker placement.

Yes. Buying component speakers (6.5" & seperate tweeter with an external crossover) will give you a better sound. Having the 6.5" speakers in pods and the tweeters mounted on top of the dash as far in the corner of the A pilar as you can get it (facing straight accross the car) should give you a pretty good sound. Take a look at Ruckus's install thread to get an idea of what you can do. Also check through the rest of the ICE questions people have asked & you'll get a lot of info on speaker placement, amping, enclosures etc.
