Technically, the Group 2 wheel arch extensions were the ones homologated for the Cooper 'S' Mk.1 as what was known as an 'Improved Production Touring car' under the competition regulations of the 60's. Group 6 never applied to the Mini as Group 6 was, from memory, 'prototype Sports & GT cars', so there is no such thing as a Group 6 Mini wheel arch extension. If someone is calling an arch Group 6, then it's just sales BS and is of no specific size or shape.
There was a 'Group 5' wheel arch extension which allowed a much higher state of modification not listed as homologated parts and these could be virtually any width. The 'Group 2' arch extensions always carried the chrome trim over the wheel arches and, although I can't be sure without checking the original homologation papers, I think the width was 2".
