
Engine And Head Identification Need Some Help

Hi all, I have a 1979 mini it was a 1000cc originally
but when I bought it the fellow I bought from claimed
the engine is now a 1300cc
These are the numbers that i can see
The head 14c4
The block WFM 1024 Nw
The engine BHM 1660 000546
Any help would be greatful as I need to rebuild due to no oil pressure
and living in canada the info would be useful

WFM1024 is in deed a 1275 block.
14c4 is a casting number you would be looking for 12G940 on the head, which will be found on the rocker or top surface
Did oil pressure suddenly disappear ? if so then try the oil pressure release valve first, remove the valve plunger, clean and inspect for damage...

Hmm - the numbers mean nothing to me. You need to look at the engine - down the back, are there two removable covers over the cam followers? If so = 998 0r 1098 or Cooper S engine ! If solid block = 1275. Second check - remove the rocker cover and note the head casting number - if 12G940 =1275 head. And yes - that head could be on a 998 block, but i think that's unlikely......

I should have added its an A+ 1275 block so it will not have tappet covers..

The BHM means Goldseal factory replacement engine. Try Googling it but there isnt much info about. Mine's BHM 1433 but I cant find anything about it. The number on the carb id tag helped quite alot in my case

A gold seal A+ ???? where exactly is the WFM1024 cast numbers on the block at the gasket face or the gearbox face approximately ?? Me thinks this is a typical case of swapped engine numbers.

Indeed yes mines a 1275 WFM1024 A+ with the BHM number.Came from a 1983 Metro HLE according to that carb tag anyway.A gold seal A+ ???? where exactly is the WFM1024 cast numbers on the block at the gasket face or the gearbox face approximately ?? Me thinks this is a typical case of swapped engine numbers.

I fthe WFM1024 is on the back of the block (exhaust side) then it will not be a genuine Gold seal engine, BL stopped the "seal" range in about 83 / 84 so it could be if it is an earlier block.
Gold seal engines are nothing special, they can be a pain in the backside, as they would grind the crank undersize then build it up to oversize and then grind it back to standard, all well and good you may think, however once it has a 0.010" regrind this built up layer is very thin and has been known to peel off, or you pay for a regrind only to find out it has gone part way through and needs another 0.010" grind
coupled with the rebore often sleeved instead of a simple oversize...
