Nick

In Australia the Clubman GT's had a metalic green engine because the GT's used all the left over Cooper S motors. Probably doesn't help with your UK 1275GT though???

May depend on year, when BL took over soon after the engines went from BMC green to black. The 1275GT ended when the Metro arrived in 1980 bringing the A+ yellow 998 block and red 1275 block colours.

i'm just building a 1275 GT engine for a '71 car and the guy whose car it is says it has to be black to be as original. So, black it is.

yes, cooperman is correct, the colour of the 1275GT engine is black.

i had someone at a show trying to tell me that the flywheel housing and clutch cover on our 1100 special should be the normal silver/casting colour when it is in fact black.....as all 1100 special engines were black all over (including the gearbox)

I'm not so sure about that; my old special was on it's original engine etc and had no mods done and it didn't have a black gearbox or flywheel house... It was all standard cast finish!

my own special and one other of a freinds (that has done 15,000 miles from new and is totally original) has black flywheel housings.......unless BL put normal in some and black in others which wouldent surprise me.....i mean they couldent even keep the vin tag plates the same on the mini 1100 specials so anything was possible!
