Hi peeps

I've found a mini I'm interested in buying but was wondering what sort of money it's worth.....

Right to start off with just as a book guide,

1 - What would a very good working class rebuilt (done within 4 years) MK2 998cc Cooper worth which was totally original?

2 - What would one be worth which had a non original larger capicity engine but the same condition and fairly original?

And finally, the car in question!

3 - A 1967 MK2 Cooper 998cc with a very good body shell and good interior, but with a rough looking non original 1275gt engine straight out of a broken 1275GT which look it hasn't even been rebuilt.....?

Problem I have is, I fancy one but don't want to pay too much incase it turns out not to be my cup of tea after trying it....

Many thanks :smartass:

yeah, there were alot of earlier coopers that weren't 1275s, like a 997cc, a 998cc, and a 1098 and maybe a 970cc?

Someone correct me if i got some of them wrong though.

I would say a half decent mk2 cooper not concours very good condition , no rot and no scabs with full mot etc should go for 2000-3000.

A slightly rough one with a few non original parts which needs tlc no mot or needs work for next mot should be about 1000-2000.

A friend of mine was interested in a fully rebuilt one full newton cormercial interior and that was 4500,but was mint.

It really is hard to say though without seeing the car.I saw a project one go on ebay ,100% complete, a really strong shell but needed paint and putting back together go for 570 pounds which i think is very good price.

Just use your own descretion really, pay what you think its worth.

Off topic, but thought I'd ask.The one with the 1275gt engine-you say that it came out of a broken 1275gt-does he have the rest of the car for sale by any chance.Sorry to go off topic but I'm after one.

Hope that this helps.

Thanks, great info!

I have a feeling the current owner just brought the car as a rolling shell then paid a mini Company to make it back into a working car. The cheapest option being to just throw a 1275GT engine in from a broken GT. If I go and look at it I will find out for sure what happened to the GT....

It's could make a nice project as the shell and paint job look really good and sound, yet the engine looks like a real mess, it literally looks like it's been lifted from a scrapped car, which is has....

Though one really, my plan was to buy a mini I fancied, and bounce it to work over the summer then buy something for the winter and store the mini till the new year assuming I get on with it (I could change the engine then for something recycled & quick! ). I'm not sure whether it would get me 10 miles each way to work every day....? The wiring loom on it is supposed to be new, but how reliable are these old cars, assuming they have been properly maintened?

Thanks again.

First is a cooper or a cooper S, and being a 998 it would be cooper..

The engine in that is just a std A series 998, but would have the 12G295 head, if you can source that, then your getting into the period for the unit, and I think they still had the magic wand box on the bottom..

Of course they had the 7 inch diskson ( not the 7.5's ) and also S rims.

Apart from that I believe they were pretty much the same as the standard 998 ( it was like a trim level option )

No binge, only the late model coopers wrre 1275cc, those after 1990 (including the RSPs)

The early coopers were either 997cc .... the tiniest bores on a mini engine (smaller than a 850 even) but with a super dooper long stroke.

Then there were the 998's which we all know and love. Very peppy engines, with twin carbs. Only problem is the discs which are useless.

Now cooper S could come in 1071 and 1275cc with a few special 970cc knocking about....rare as rocking horse pooh though.

1. I'd pay upto 4-6k depending on condition.

2. Without original engine much less...... maybe 3k tops if it was immaculate.

3. I'd want to pay less that 3k if the engine looks ropey.

I'd be suspicious of a nice original cooper that someone stuffed a manky engine in... is the body definatly good????

Just my opinion though....maybe contact someone from the cooper register?????

If you can ,try and get some pictures up.

Another thing,do you no its the original shell.

It could be that the owner found a half decent MK2 and put the docs off a rotten MK2 Cooper.

Have a look in the boot for boot board brackets,as you look into the boot, the wall that the back seat goes against, there should be two brackets about a couple of inces up from the floor, this is where the boot board goes. Its not a great way of telling as i think the dulux model had them as well. But if there not there be pretty sure that its been reshelled.

If i was you I'd do what was said above ,get all doc numbers, vin etc, and get onto the cooper register. There very helpfull and give you great advice.
