Hey,

After all the big jobs, I'm stuck on a small one! I've bought a new throttle cable and want to check I am fitting it correctly at the bulkhead. My car is an MPi, and on the engine bay side of the bulkhead there is a rubber tube receptacle approx 1in long that the inner passes through and the outer sits in/against. The end of my cable outer looks like this, with a stepped part at the end (this is the old cable, the new one is the same):

How far should I push the cable outer in to the receptacle? Just the small step to the left or the big step too? On the small step I don't really have enough adjustment at the throttle body end. If it's the big step, is there some trick to getting it in as it's very tight with little access.

My replacement cable also has two loose rubber tube sections that slide up and down it's length. Looking at the photo http://www.mra-minis...i-sbb103400.htm on the MRA site where they are shown at either ends of the cable, it looks like one part of it is stuck over the big step. Should I be removing the rubber piece from my bulkhead and replacing it with one of the sliding pieces on the new cable already slid over the big step? I don't want to remove anything I shouldn't to try it as it's so awkward in that space!

Hopefully that all makes sense!

Many thanks,
James

Don't understand the 'rubber tube receptacle' - sure it's not just the reamains of a protective sleeve? Does it pull off?

In the end it was the 2inch sleeve off of the old outer casing. It was in tight! When i removed thw rest of the cable, that stayed put. Managed to get it out and with skills a contortionist would be proud of got the new bit of rubber in place!

I'll have another question about it in a minute once I find my camera lead.

Thanks guys :)

Right you were.

The angle that the cable breaks out of the bulkhead to the pedal is a bit wonky. My old cable had done this:

By the looks of it, the new one will eventually do the same as it catches on that same lip. I've tried wiggling the cable in the engine bay to get a better angle but to no avail as the metal bit in the bulkhead is seated in place where it wants to be. Is this at all normal or is something else amiss?

Thanks,
James
