Basically the dash that is currently in my mini is falling apart, and i don't like it either. So it's going to be replaced, but i'll be dammed if im paying £100 odd for a piece of wood!
So im making my own, started off simple enough but ive made it complicated for myself, but should be worth it in the end.
So this is what it will (or at least i hope it will lol) look like (except mine will be black and orange), thats including the speaker pods! :)

So, a few stupid questions for you guys

1. How does that glovebox open? I like the idea of having the 3 protruding bits on the dash which i could have a different colour, but surely that means the glovebox door would be bigger than the hole, so when you try to flip it open the bottom of the door would get caught on the dash and wouldn't open, how have you got around this?

2. My current dash is held in with those annoying bars and wingnuts. Its easy for me to remove them, simply shove my hand through the glovebox for the n/s and through the speaker hole for the o/s. However, i plan to have no holes in the new dash (well considering air vent atm....) and i plan to put a liner behind the dash for the glovebox. So how would i access the bars to fit/remove the dash. I've seen this done before so i know its do-able.

last question, does anybody have any templates for the protruding bits of the dash??

Thanks,
Dan

Will look good if it's done well

1. Mount the hinges right at the bottom of the protruding glove box 'door' will be behind the 'door' so will be hidden and it's an easy solution to opening it properly.

2. You can buy a kit that has a stepped piece of plastic on it (much like the straps you used to get on roller blades?) so you just push the dash back into place, to remove you can either reach up from underneath (if you have no base) or give it a careful tug in line with the brackets and it will pop straight off.

3. To get the shape for the protruding bits correct I would simply take a piece of mdf (if thats what you are using) big enough to get all three parts out of side by side and leave a few inches around the edge. Pencil on the angles you would ideally want, cut along the lines you draw and then shape each piece to look good, this way all the angles will match and there is no need for any over complication.

Hope this makes sense ?!?

Jay
