Can anyone tell me where the MAP sensor is on an SPI (95) please?

My engine runs perfectly with the exception of a 1/2 second hesitation when you floor the accelorator (either driving or standing).  I've had a few tips to check the MAP sensor, but can't find it!!

Thanks

It's in the Ecu, connected to the inlet manifold via a black vacuum pipe with a fuel trap in the middle. The plastic elbows on these can split and cause air leaks and running issues. Also check the red vacuum line to the air box, and the yellow line on the airbox for splits

Coolest temp sensor in Inlet Manifold - Can it be reached for under th car????

I need to change my sensor, but after looking at it can't get access to the sensor from above and don't have a jack large enough to get under the car to see if it's possible to get acces from there. I don't fancy removing the inlet manifold so looking for an easy solution.

Any tips??

Easiest solution is to remove the inlet manifold...

Had to do it to mine a while back and tried all sorts of ways, easiest way is to stripdown the inlet manifold.....

Yes, I did it under the car, but room is very little, if you have big arms and hands you will find it very difficult.

I did it once from under the car - it is a pain in the a...

Easier to remove manifold and at the same time clean what ever needs cleaning.

Try driving it so you have one wheel on the footpath and one wheel on the road. This will increase the clearance quite significantly, abroad this method has helped me out of problems several times.

Once when I broke down in France the only way to work underneath my car was to remove a drain cover and stand in it while the car was pushed over me.

Maybe the CTS is defect or the cables/connections  are not okay. The CTS signals to the ECU and this one gives siognals to the injection.

Are you sure that your vac hoses are all ok? The original ones or silicone?

What do you mean by "the sensor reads low"? How do you read the sensors signals?

Hi Mininerd

I'm pretty sure the ECU and temperature gauge are linked i.e. if your (dashboard) temp gauge is reading low, the ECU will think the engine is cold & overfuel.

Flushing / cleaning the coolant pipe is a good idea, but I'm not sure if it will sort it as you will have loosened any gunk around the old sensor when you removed the old one. It's fairly easy, so give it a go anyway - make sure the rubber tubes are clear either end too as I've had lots of stuff collect in these, particularly near the heater valve.

My money's on a faulty sensor and / or connection fault on the sensor. I did exactly the same as you after a rebuild (changed all the sensors) which meant I didn't know which one was causing the problem & took a long time to discover. It did turn out to be the CTS, & not particularly expensive over here (£12)

Have you definitely used the (black) sensor?

The other point to note is that the old the MEMS modules can reset to default if disconnected from the battery, so will have to "relearn" the engine's best settings which can take some time.

*Note* do check the 195 deg thermostat is the correct one for Canada spec, as it will not help to have it opening at the wrong temperature. by the way getting cooler when driving "logs show it sees 70C or better until you start driving" suggests the old thermostat might be sticking open.

It took me (and the local mini specialist) several weeks and almost a full a tank of petrol to sort this out, but we did get there - so don't give up!

I do think the temperature gauge is a clue though!!!

Good luck.

I had to bypass the heated manifold when on tour to IMM in Italy. Dash Temp gauge read normal but I have never used so much fuel in one day! I had to improvise a flow and return.
There is a sensor in the manifold which the ecu addresses. GTR307 (was gtr185) black plastic socket located in the underside of the inlet manifold.
That said if your running cool generally and can see it on your dash gauge both pickups will be affected and the ecu will over-fuel based on the manifold sensor response.

Okay there is lots of useful information in this thread which was the main reason it was pinned.
However it has become cluttered with individual issues needing a resolution which should be new posts to share the the information.

It is therefore locked.

If you want to add something to this please contact the admin/mods.

Big thank you to Sprocket who has done all the "heavy lifting" on this

If you have an issue post a new thread - the members/docs will help you.
