Were exactly is the main earth point for the dials on an 84?

ground is ground, it really doesn't matter where you take it from.

I know the dials are earthed through the dials, but there is still a black earth wire in the multi plug off into the loom.
I’m not asking on were to put in a new earth either.
I would just like to know were exactly that earth ends up?
As for the last month now both the fuel and temperature gauges have been acting up.
I’ve tried 2 NEW voltage regulators, replaced and rewired the fuse box; checked the alternators output (steady 14.2 to 14.3 volts) changed the temp sender in the head and swapped the connections on the tank sender. But yet the dials still don’t show a steady reading and just continue to bounce around wildly.
I’m not asking on were to put in a new earth either.
