You can find decent 16v engines about... in actuality the 1 in my peugeot wasnt fantastic, but for what i paid for the car it would be expected. A clutch and a cam belt change its doing just fine for a 130k mile engine. Head has been off, bores look fine... but in anycase thats not really the point here.

The alt' mount on the 16v engine sticks out further than the 8v engine too... but iv never looked at it in that much detail, the mounts more robust

i love the 1.6 16v gti engine! do it..... could even fit a pugsport then ;)

there is a big alternator mount on the 1.4 too, the picture is actualy the mini alternator with a home made bottom mount and the citroen adjuster. ive got a stainless exhaust manifold but it wont fit . it hits the subframe and gear linkage......*******

could you not fit a smaller alternator to move it closer to the bloke with a shorter belt?

yea , probably. but it would still stick through a bit, i can live with it the way it is


and who is this "bloke with the shorter belt" to which you refer ?

Thanks to all of u for ur input!!! After alot of consideration ive decided thatt mayb the 16v head conversion would b much easier n less hassle!!! lol!

good luck with that then,
my impression is that its a LOT more expensive,
and remember you will need a strong gearbox to handle all that power......................thats more expense
