"From day one, MINI has made a name for itself by having fun with its advertising and marketing efforts. Many times, these include outdoor “environmental marketing” in big cities such as New York or Chicago. These are essentially outdoor marketing stunts, which have included putting a Cooper on top of a Ford Excursion, or sticking a Countryman inside a giant snow globe. To celebrate the new Coupé, MINI is putting on a different kind of “launch” — one involving a 30-foot high faux rocket with a real MINI Coupé attached, ready to orbit the imagination."

But I'm warming to Bini's.....so I'l just say 'Hope it doesnt fall off'

they certainly do go to extreme lengths in their campaigns. I guess it works so...... meh what ever. still not a car that appeals to me but I respect the efforts, they certainly have the money to throw at the ads. I just hope they know the difference between heavy ad campaigns and ramming a product down someone's throat. Makes me wonder if a good product would need so many stunts. Surely if it was any good it should sell itself.

The MINI brand has needed a lot more promotion in the USA and some other new export markets as their motoring public have little previous knowledge or history with buying the classic Mini range.

It seems that the opposite extreme in marketing is from MG Motors UK with their new MG6...............six months since launch and most of us are yet to see an MG6 on the road or even a billboard advert or a dealer with some MG cars on sale?

AustinRover Online are very disappointed with the sales efforts so far and the video advert below..........

Im afraid im with E L M O on this one...The best german (mainstream) car is the Audi..Ive been lucky enough to own a few...they are great..
The New Mini is a pointless excersise...Its like they have just thought, sod it we havnt made a coupe from the Bini yet, I wonder whats next in the pipeline. A double decker, or maybe the Bini Super Ligera....Talk about flogging a brand to death!!

That is a terrible ad for the new MG6! no wonder they dont show it! Definitely not targeting MGB owners.

Can you imagine the outcry amongst classic mini owners if BMW did a similar ad with their mini wizzing past a classic!

The point is that the MINI could not survive as a single model and the Mini owner/buyer profile is quite different to the those that buy the existing BMW range of cars...........all manufacturers need to promote brand loyalty from buyers but if their motoring needs or desires change and you can not offer a comprehensive range of models they look elsewhere taking their custom with them.
eg. As with the classic Mini in the past many MINI drivers eventually start a family and need a bigger car but would like to keep the fun factor of Mini ownership, the idea is now they can with extra models in the range like the Clubman Estate and Countryman, or those that would like a 2 seater Audi TT style of sports car can instead afford to buy the cheaper MINI Coupe or Roadster. A small city car is also not long off..............

The long term plan of BMW has always been to build a range of cars under MINI as a standalone brand within the Rover and later the BMW Group. It should be remembered that BMC back in the 1960's were also busy adding many Mini variants to the range such as the Traveller, Countryman, Van. Pickup, Elf, Hornet, Clubmans and Mokes while many more proposals were stillborn due to the lack of imoney to invest in further development from the 1970's onwards...............

An interesting comparism test below between a new Mini Cooper SD vs a used Audi TT TDI
(N|ote. There are some typing/translation errors in the internet article!)

Originally published in Autocar magazine:
"With around 19k GBP to spend, here we have two models that would claim to handle the entertainment/economy compromise better than most. Both the fresh-out-of-the-box Mini Cooper SD and used Audi TT Tdi quattro are specced to match their petrol stablemates, so which is best at melding a capable, enjoyable, affordable donor car with an oil-burning engine? The reassurance of German engineering, two-plus-two(ish) layouts, and 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel unite these cars, but, as we’ll see, much else separates them........"

Yes how dare they try to make money! Bastards!

I suppose it does go against the tradition of Minis never making any money.

Just give up, BMW are going to keep making new Mini models whether you like them or not.

Personally I prefer the Roadster, seems to make more sense with loosing the rear seats.

I also like the roadster! I am not against the Bmw mini brand at all..In fact I like the car...I just dont see a market for the new coupe..(which means they will prob sell millions). A 2+2...I think not!! I think some car makers really believe we can actually detatch our legs....No disrespect to those who can!
