I am now finally getting around to building my engine, but find i can no longer buy the cam i wanted: a morspeed PH3 cam >_<

i know that a 286 and SW10 are very similar, but i wanted the slightly better road quality of the PH3.

i read somewhere that the Newman PH2 is exactly the same as the morspeed PH3 cam, and that they actually provided them to morspeed.

can anyone confirm that? has anyone had any experience with the newman PH2 cam?

here is the info sheet for the cam:
http://www.newman-ca...m/pdf/rover.pdf

also, if anyone has a new morspeed PH3 they would sell, i would be very interested.

Many thanks

adam

I needed to replace my PH3 during my current engine rebuild (not yet complete) and chose to go for AC Dodd's "ACD-RS+". It's similar to PH3 profile and available through MLMotorsports. See here for details... http://www.mlmotorsp...id=86&Itemid=30

Right I've had a look, and i can't post my cam charts on the forum for some reason -.-

The Newman seems to have the same lift than the Morspeed from what i can see. The duration is the same also.
From what i can see they look the same, However the valve lift stages are different in my charts so i can't compare

I agree with the short duration & rapid valve opening philosophy, but I'm puzzled why MLM go on to advise against high ratio rockers. They're a better way to get valves open quickly without as much side load.

It would be more cost than doing it with a cam alone though.

Interesting, Im putting one in my 998 :)
Ive got a friend with one who's giving it to me.

His spec produced over 100bhp with it and the spec was roughly as follows,
1380
Crank, wedged, X-drilled, hardened and balanced.
Midget rods, lightened, stress relieved and polished, balanced
MED race 37x30 head
webber 45 DCOE
MSPD trackday cam
1.5:1 roller rockers
aldon yellow dizzy
MED ultralight flywheel and back plate, AP race/rally clutch plate with orange diaphram
Jack Knight Box, drop gears and diff

Thats from memory so don't quote me on that :L

well, i heard from David newman at newman cams, and he confirmed that he was morspeeds cam provider and that the newman PH2 cam is exactly the same as the morspeed PH3.

and at £150 for a billet one, i may go for that to aid longevity of the cam.
