Well I knew she needed work around the front like the doors etc. but I thought the rear was ok, but all is fun even with the surprises and now I will know every inch of her is done properly :)

Hey all,

I haven't posted in a while because to be honest the hasn't been much to post about, all I have been doing is painstakingly removing filler, finding more horrors and reversing them. The shop It's going to is back logged so I've been getting on with other little bits to keep busy. The engine is stripped back to the block and bits have been cleaned up and painted, I've now sourced all my doors and panels so it's really just a waiting game, I'm told next week so fingers crossed.

Here's how she stands at the moment, one side filler free and zinc coated to stop rust:

Finally the van has gone off for it's major weld work and paint job. It's great having a vehicle ramp and air powered tools to play with now, makes life easier.
Before she left we pulled the engine out and I've clean that up and painted all that up, with a bit of polishing it will be ready and waiting to go back in.

All the under body has now been cleaned up and free'd from the tar-like crap. It revealed a few nasty patch jobs but overall it's extremely well preserved.

Once my new front panel arrives the whole front end can be torn off and replaced. Finally real progress is being made and the fun jobs can begin :D.

The van is now at the last stage of it's de-construction, There isn't much left but now the only way is back up! I have two guys working on the welding and panel work as I don't have anywhere near the skill or confidence to do the level of work needed. I have to hand it to the guys they really know their stuff. Panels we can't get hold of they have managed to fabricate and are like for like, and they always have an answer to my many questions.
By the end of this week she should be re-built and even primed, then she's coming home for a dry build.

Right, prepare yourselves, these pictures aren't for the faint hearted Mini lover. :P

Interesting where do you plan on getting hole side panels from out of interest?

I've had to scour the earth for some pick up panels and chop off the unneeded parts. The rear area where the van and pick ups are different have fabricated panels. you can see one of them behind the van in the 3rd pic down.
I wanted to keep the original panels but they were just ruined, there was no way I'd get it straight enough for the black paint.

I have a van project myself, I am just curious why you went with pup quarters instead of the van/estate lower quarter panels?

I know Somerfords has them listed. http://www.somerford...roducts_id=1035

Also interesting thanks chris hadn't realised somerford stocked them. The side of my van is quite ripped and the arch corners have gone, it would be must easier to start again rather than patch and fill. Doe's anyone have experience fitting them and there difficulty?

Simply, because I didn't know these were available haha :S, wish I knew but I only had a few days to source them and get them in. To be honest they are practically the same, not a massive amount of work to convert them.

Good eye, yeah A444. A friend of mine owns a body shop called Finish line, just off the London Road near Mr. Tyres.

------------

The front end has started to go on today and the doors/A panels have been aligned.
