Can someone tell me if it is preferable to use Megajolt with a throttle position sensor or a Manifold air pressure sensor? I was thinking of buying the bolt on TPS for the Weber 45 I am planning on using but depends on pros and cons.

MAP is more preferable on force induction engines as you can tell the volume of air entering
TPS more preferable on engine with long cam durations as the valve pulses can mess up the signal

Yeah, I was on a 286, used two pipes into a little reservoir, then a single pipe out of that to the sensor, BUT, I tried it without a reservoir and just fitted a T-piece and it made little to no difference to be honest.

I would say that most roady/fast roady and lower cam specced Minis will be fine on MAP really. TPS is only really required for wild cams.

running 296 cam on 1380 with freeflowing head, its semi race engine i suppose... i'm happy to go with MAP if there is little difference as it saves me the 77 quid for the weber TPS sensor!

Me and the Matt and mini93 have a friend running a 296 scatter with a weber etc producing about 120bhp and he's on map...

Always go for MAP first. This means you can adjust the ignition relative to engine load (vacuum) rather than just the throttle position. The throttle position is indicative of engine load, but not as good a vacuum.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread.

Bradley,

I'm also running a 1380 with a 296 cam, and will be using a weber 45 on my new build. I fancy building a megajolt system and I was wondering if you had any success with MAP? Or did you go for TPS in the end?
