Im after some advice regarding the best place to send my Mk1 for a serious amount of work.

From what i can see it needs, inner and outer sills, floor pans, heel board, and lower scuttle and a bit of work in the boot. Doing the the lower scuttle will be a wings off job so a new front end wouldn't go a miss either.

I am after a very high quality job and am aware of the expense levels involved.

I would do it myself, but i just want the car back on the road and work is so hectic i don't have time.

Where could anyone recommend?

Im in the south of England, but i am will to travel (midland etc) to get a top quality job.

kind regards

J

I'd like to think we're pretty good at what we do at Mintec Mini Spares. We've got a few projects running on here at the moment that you can take a look at.

We used Somerford Mini near Chippenham (http://www.somerford-mini.co.uk/) for our 1960 Austin Seven and they did an excellent job. They are knowledgeable, professional and their attention to detail is great. However, they are expensive and have a waiting list; I think it's around eighteen months to two years at the moment.

Im a mobile welding but i can also take in a Mini in my garage. i have all the facilities to do a top notch job, spot welder, mig welder, hand tools etc. anything a bodyshop would have.
Plus i now have on hand a Professional spray painter with spray booth who will do spraying for me.
So you could save more money with me and still get the job your looking for.

So if I were to tell you my scuttle is literally rusting away (it really is that bad) you would be up for it? Lol. and how much roughly would you say it would cost for a new front end to be put on??

I have used Somerford - first class. Mini Machine are also first rate.

BUT - you get what you pay for. Expect to pay £7k plus from these guys just for the 'shell restoration - obviously, it depends on the condition.

I've seen "restorations" that have cost £3k - £5k and some have been good (others no so good). But none have been a patch on the Somerford and Mini Machine jobs.

Their are three downsides to Somerford/Minimachine:
- Cost
- Time (when I researched them they had a very full order book)
- So good you'll be scared to scratch them.

I have seen work by Mini Machine and they were exceptional, heard very good things about Somerford.

Somerford are currently working on our Clubman Estate. I would agree with Pdaykin that the quality of workmanship and the costs does make you very wary of where you take/leave your Mini – definitely makes you feel anxious! Below is a link to photos that Somerford have sent me chronicling Pooh’s progress

I know he's been busy prepping his race car for next season so he might not have been on there to see you message. The best way to get ahold of him would be to ring the work shop and go from there.

Yes i would be up for that. seen alot of bad rust before and repaired it. for a whole front end to be welded on, (front panel, wings, a panels, scuttle) I could normally do that for about 200. Providing there isnt too much rust in surrounding panels.
