My Rover Mini 1995 1275cc SPI won't start.

Battery is charged, engine turns over, sometimes it runs for less than a second, but most of the time nothing.

I checked the vacuum pipes and they were ruined so they have been replaced.

I've checked the resistance of the HT leads, and a couple of them are just out of range (according to the manual).

4.3 kOhms
4.7 kOhms
5.0 kOhms
5.0 kOhms

The manual says they should be between 5-15kOhms.

Does this sound like the cause of the problem, or is it something else?

No problem there, plug lead resistance is negligible compared to the plug gap, it just damps out RF interference, as do resister spark plugs.

You could try a little splash of petrol in the inlet, to help decide if it's a fuel or ignition gremlin.

Put some petrol in the inlet and it started, then konked out (once it was out of fuel)
second time, it kept running :)

maybe a weak fuel pump or some crap in the injectors. i'm just about to go and buy some injector cleaner additive :)

Temperature sensor, or wiring possibly? If it doesn't know how cold it is, it won't know how much extra fuel is needed.

how do i test the air intake sensor?

It seems to be starting the car for the first time that is the problem, after I put some fuel in the manifold, it runs all day.
