I am planning on changing from a 2 dial cluster to a 3 dial cluster. I am wondering if the same connection that plugs into the back of the 2 dial panel will fit the three dial panel. Is there anything else needed apart from hooking up the speedo to complete the change.Cheers.

Yes the multi plug is universal as it fits into the back of both the 2 and 3 clock clusters, the only thing that it actually supplies to the third clock (tacho/rev counter) is illumination. All the data for the tacho/rev counter is supplied by two separate wires that connect directly to the back of the third clock. Depending on the age of your particular mini, you may well have these two data wires already in your loom, many of the 2 clock models came with a three clock loom as standard.

Check out this previous thread where "Kam" explains exactly how to do it with step by step pictures, even explaining how to swap your speedo instrument across from your old cluster to your new one in order to preserve the mileage. http://www.theminifo...=150365&hl=dash

Thanks for this.Extremely helpful. I actually have those wires for the rev counter already and I was wondering what they were for. Thanks again.

The wires are already part of the loom but not used on 2 clock speedos, they just hang there doing nothing!

The extra wires are not necessarily already present in the loom. It all depends on the year of the original build and/or loom respectively. In my case, the loom that was in a 1974 Clubman Estate didn't have the extra cable. But it's easily pulled in manually.
