Hey all
Whats everyones experience of changing to the larger 52mm throttle body?
Is it worth doing for the money?
Do you need to hae the ecu plugged in and told about the change?
Finally how does the airbox fit? Do you need to fit an aftermarket filter?
Thanks everyone
Dave

This mod has little value in and of itself, in my view. It would only have some major value for a heavily modified MPI, but of course the MPI is difficult to mod for high power.
If you have to replace the unit anyway then it makes a bit more sense, as the Burlen unit is made of metal. I don't think it hurts matters.
The 52mm TB would help if the MPI were choked by the smaller TB - but it's not. The limitations of the MPI are in the head and the fuelling system.
Any gains from the 52mm TB would be at max RPM, if they're actually measureable. I think I've seen perhaps claims of 1-2 hp at 5000+ rpm.
It does not need modifications to the airbox or a new ECU. A modded ECU (if such a thing existed ) would not unlock the potential of the 52mm unit, since the bottleneck is in the fuelling.

But what it will do is make your engine run much smoother, I don't know why, maybe a turbulance thing but thats what it did for mine.

Thanks for that Blue dragon that was very informative mate lol.
Would you say it was worth the expense to make it smoother?

I didn't notice any improvement, but I am a very small sample set. I really only bought the unit because it was on sale and I thought I could use it as a spare (a durable spare due to its metal construction.) After finding no improvement that I could notice, I just put the original back on and am keeping the 52mm as a replacement if needed in the future. Had it not been on sale for a big discount, I probably would not have bought it.
But as such, I can't say I've had months of experience with it. After a short trial with no changes I could notice, I took it off for future spares use. I've not noticed any issues with smoothness on my MPI, idle or under load, that I though needed remedy however.
