Morning guys,

When applying stonechip to the underneath, does it have to go on bare metal?

Or

Can it go over any of the following:-

- zinc primer
- hammerite painted on
- red oxide

Thanks guys,

Louis

It can go over primer which is usually better as it has a proper base to stick to. Thats what my painter of 30yrs+ is saying to me about my stone chip anyway

I wouldn't hang to go anywhere near the Hammerite though. It will no doubt just react

If your taking down to bare metal, This is what I have done:

1) Take to bare metal.
2) Apply Kurust
3) Etch Prime - Upol
4) Zinc Primer
5) 2 coats of paint (sand last layer slightly to key surface)
6) Stonechip
7) Underseal

Worked a treat.

The one thing you must remember though each coat of paint primer etc must be fully dry and all of the solvents will need to have evaporated. It will react otherwise.

PM panelbeaterpeter and he will give you the heads up. I learnt a lesson from him and if i had listened it would have saved me a lot of money and frustration.
