Check the earth on the actual light unit. In the boot on the drivers side. It should be attached to the bottom of the unit somewhere.

Have you recently fitted some new lights? Could be a short inside the headlamp bowl. Also check the bullet connectors under the slam panel.

Have you checked the wires?

Someone once asked me this.

I atempted to check the wires. and gave up!

Wiring loom is the most confusing thing on any car!

Do the brake lights work?
If they are working, then its NOT a bad earth as all the tail lights earth through the mounts.

If they dont work, then it could well be the earth.

Well they don't all earth through the mounts, depends on how old the car is. But if the brake lights and indicators work then the earth for the tail lights does and if the headlamps work then the earth for the side lights does.

It's not actually a line fuse you should be checking, it's the bottom fuse in the four fuse block. Should be a 15amp glass cartridge fuse. I assume it's that one anyway since you haven't said which Mini you have or how old it is but that's the one on the majority of Mini's.

Are the dash lights out too. If they are, it's probably the fuse as Dan has already said.

If the fuse has blown, replace it. If it happens again then you will have to investigate further as there is obviously something causing it to blow.

sounds like it has a bad contact at the fuse holder where the wires plug together....
