Hi, we use tengtool for the ship engines at work and are very good alround ,also have a big section of tools

snap on are very good but also dear

Neil, if i may ask is it true that snap on tool are the only tool allowed to work on aircraft??

No not at all, there are so many different manufacturers of tools out there and yes some are purely aviation orientated. To be honest i have seen everything used on aircraft, Proto, Proxxon, Halfords, Snap on, Stahlwillie, King Dick and so on. My kit is comprised of all sorts, Desoutter air tools, Snap on spanners but also a mixture of cheaper ones that i use to modify, Snap On sockets etc etc etc the list is never ending and after 31 years of collecting there is a lot.

Wow, what a response.
I didn't realise people were so passionate about tools lol

To be honest I also rate other makes and may consider them too if they are as good or better than Snap-on stuff.
I have been looking on ebay and have picked up a few bits but its always good to ask on here too just in case someone is clearing out a shed/garage etc

Please PM me if you have anything for sale.

Thanks

the old MAC tools are ace :) spanners really fit in your hand and are more square than the newer type spanner, which i think gives a better grip:P

Garrett ,

i have a large selection of snap on tools that i would be happy to part with. If you can PM me a list osf specifics or hard to come by items that i might have then i will have a root through. Perks of a father being a mechanic and accumulating years of tools.

I have lots of large sockets, and more imperial spanners than you can shake a stick at.

Let me know

Aaron

When you bread and butter depends on the reliabilty and quality of your tools , it can get alot of people piped up :D

i would personaly stick to mac / snap-on and teng tools for a majority of my tools but its down to preference and budget .
Cheaper brands can mean cheaper quality , but for what most home users use tools for and how frequent , it doesnt matter imo .
I can warrant hundreds amonth on my tool accounts becuase i know i need them to ( and hopefully ) last me for life and know i can use them a million times and still not have to worry if my rachet or w/e is going to slip the next time i use it and leading brands have that quality above other brands in my experience , but as i say for the home user or when tools are not needed as your daily earner it maybe cheaper and more rewarding in means of return for your money to stick to the halford pro or draper ranges to get more tool for your money while getting quality and garentee at the same time .

Dont be always sucked in by the branding of some tools , not all is what it may seem sometimes - those in the trade will know this by the offer mags that come out and that some tools between some of the top makes and budget makes look mighty simular apart from their branding name stamped on them and maybe colours ....

I think Stahlwille are the best and have a great range, they are still expensive though but at least it is reasonable price for the quality, snap-on are over hyped I think and far to expensive for what they are. the blue point stuff is made in Taiwan and still costs lots. Teng Tools also made in Taiwan are not that good either from my experience of them, the quality and tolerances are not good. Teng ok for DIY not for serious use.

spanners and sockets i use Stahlwille, pliers and grips I use Knipex, specialist tools Sykes Picivant are good for those.

but the Clarke boxes and cabs are pretty good tho :)

The thing with halfords is their pro or industrial range are good but the rest is not. Their Black Industrial roll cabs are great. Whats more they have a lifetime guarantee. The red roll cabs are cheap diy quality. If you keep your eye on their website they sometimes do a deal where you buy the rollcab and get the topcab free. Same with their socket sets their 150 pro set has a lifetime guarantee and is regularly on offer at £99 where sellers on ebay sell the same set for more.
As mentioned the ratchets can wear and the rachet mechanism is not covered by the lifetime guarantee but the mechanism are cheap to replace if it does go. Had mine 4 years and not had to replace anything yet, got a set of their flexi head ratchet spanners and screwdrivers too. Good stuff at a good price but watch out for deals to build up your tool collection.
