I'll tell you what is expensive: it's the re-wiring of virtually the entire front loom when that 'effing pink wire' overheats and takes the rest of the adjacent wires with it.
I've twice had to do this re-wiring and it's around a 6 hour job, plus a lot of wire and connectors.
I've never found the 12 v coil cars hard to start.

AccuSpark ballast coil = 14 GBP
AccuSpark standard coil = 14 GBP
Lucas DLB102 (ballast coil) = 20 GBP
Lucas DLB105 (standard coil) = 15 GBP
All on eBay U.K. So a ballast coil does not have to cost more than a 12V coil... certainly not double, not even for Lucas.

If you return to the first page of this thread, the discussion that Dilligaf and I are having started with my describing how to retain the ballast ignition system by replacing the pink wire with an external ballast resistor and plain wire. I don't dispute that the pink wire can cause expensive problems. Far from it. If you read what I posted on the previous page you will see that I am proposing an inexpensive alteration that does away with the pink wire but does not require expensive coil replacement.
