Well, eBay has thoughly fecked me about so I thought I'd give the old girl an ad here and see how it goes.
For Sale ; My 1967 Hornet, nick named El Odio (£950).

I've had this car for about 3 years now and I've enjoyed it greatly. Problem is I now have a job but no time to care for the car in the way in which I wish to.
That and I've just gotten a van as I need to rebuild another Mini and its oddly difficult fitting a Mini in another Mini, so the Hornet has to go.
In the time I've owned this car, the few problems that I had, it's had because I decided to go left instead of right. I bent the rear subframe by taking a wrong turn and ending up on a dirt road that bent an arm (replaced both, as well as the whole rear subframe). Past that I was in the mind of "can't be that hard" and having a go. I have learnt a lot from this car over the years and it has yet to let me down. The engine is very perky (never give anyone a copy of David Vizards books if you ever want to see them without oil and grease on them) and happily takes long trips in its stride.
RUST AND REPAIRS;
I'm an honest-ish chap and I have no plan to change. This is a 44-45year old car owned by what can be colourfully be called "a berk with no money but a lot of time". This car has had a lot of rust removal work over the years, some good some utterly terrible. Do not come to this car expecting a slightly shoddy diamond. You've either got to fix it or leave it as it. Its been patched and welded, if you think of a problem area you'd like to see (but are unable to come and have a viewing) then please, email / PM me and I will take photos / videos of the areas to show you the any problems.
Millage - ??? - Current is around 70,000+
When I got the car I noticed it had a much later engine, I've also swapped the clocks out on it (I'm also throwing most of the original parts I took off the car in this sale as well, parts listed down the page). The original clocks I recall saying 40-50,000 miles, current ones are off a later car at 70,000 odd miles, so really the mileage is a bit of a guess.
The good and the bad;
So this car is a bit of a mismash of bits. Its now mostly 1982 spec parts (my first stripped down car was an 82), but the car already had a fair few odd parts on it so I just ran with it. I kept some parts in the garage (original steering wheel and pedal box) or fitted to the car (like the old hand pump window washer, the car has an electric washer pump, the old one is there because it wasn't in the way and I rather liked the silliness of it) as well as updating a few parts to make the car a bit nicer to use daily (Mpi heater, different wiring loom, halogen headlights).
Paint is also a bit shoddy. Being by the sea the body work gets eaten away and rusts up quickly. I've painted it with primer twice now (no cash when I painted it and the paint they supply around here is 2k which I hear many bad things about). The car IS solid but the paint is rather poor.
Problems this car still has;
This car has one odd major problem. It hates 3rd gear. I found from driving you have to knock it into 4th then into 3rd (leave the clutch down) it will go into 3rd fine. If you go from 2nd to 3rd without doing this it WILL NOT go into gear. But just knock it to 4th to 3rd its fine. The gearbox doesn't crunch, moan, whine or anything bad. Just it bit funny with 3rd. I will show the winner how to get it to 3rd perfectly fine (I been driving it for 3years like this, its just a quirk of the car really).
Other problems, well, rust as you'd expect on a car this old, engine leaks a bit of oil that's about it really.
Carb has a leak on the spindle, only major problem with this is setting the idle speed. I set it to around 1000 but it tends to fall off if you sit at the lights, simple to hold with throttle pedel. It also had a VERY short throttle spring, which is a bit hard for some people.
Interior, its shoddy to say the best. There not head lining, the rear door cars are rotted to a fine sludge (since removed and painted back there), I drive, never cared much for the interior as its expensive to get the parts, so I just lived with it and had no problems.
Window winders are however ... odd. I'm not sure if there something on the glass or in the seals (new after I got the car, my first car leaked badly, I wasn't having any of that on this Hornet), they stick badly unless you dump a little WD40 down the runners, then its fine for 3 weeks. I tend to just flick the rear quarters open instead.
During my time owning this car, I had time to do jobs but not masses of cash, so I took my time, fixed things, sorted others and kept the car running sweet. Now I have a full time job I have money but no time. I've got receipts for most of the parts I bought new from MotorFactors shops, other times it was either eBay or private forum sales.
I tended to stick with "it runs great, just look bad" as my mantra.
