Hello. I am a 17 year old guy, passed my driving test about a month ago and im after a mini. Getting the car isnt a problem, but insuring it IS. I have been quoted over £4626 for 3rd party insurance on a 1 leatre Mini. That is ridiculous. Ive tried with other cars to, i was offered a suzuki Vitara last week (9 grand quote) and ive tried to get insured on a Corsa (£5000) All theese other cars are **** anyway. I have my heart set on a mini. I was just wondering if anyone can suggest to me any way to get insurance on a 1 leatre MINI for a NONridiculous price, i was looking at spending a maximum of £2000. Please help any help and advice would be appriciated.

Where do you live? That could have an effect?

Also, where did you declare you kept the car at night?

Footman and james told me they have stopped doing their classic car insurance now, so after this year everyone on it has to go to their normal insurance.
Try aviva, i got third party for £1000 on a 1.3 cooper. also put your parents as additional drivers, got mine down by £300

I had the same problem. I'm 20, passed my test a couple of months ago. I drive a Mini Sidewalk, insured for £1100 with Aviva. They're the best I dealt with. I kept checking their quotes everyday, though, they seem to change week to week.

Grandson, 17 yesterday, insured with Quinn. About £1200 until he passes his test, then it will go up to c.£1700. I'm a named driver on her 3rd part policy.
Adrian Flux wanted £1970 3rd party pr £2170 fully comp. Car is a 1997 1275 Cooper MPI valued at £5500.

Definatly add at least one older more experienced driver, Parent, Grandparent etc... will make it cheaper generally. Also try using cashback sites too to maximise discounts. Currently if you buy from Aviva through Topcashback you can get £51.50 cashback. Takes a few months to get it back but it does payout. I saved £60 earlier this year when I insured my other car. So worth doing.

I had exactly the same problems! all the classic insurers 'footman james' 'adrian flux' etc ... they won't insure you if your cars under 20 years , and if its over, their new policy will bring the price right up!

your best bet is to go on www.tiger.co.uk , a comparison site for young drivers,

i've now been driving for a year, years no claims, and just renewed my insurance with RAC, at £660 fully comp , bargain.

Fully comp is your best bet, cheapest :D

the majority of places have a compulsory excess of £300 for drivers under 21 too (including my policy) , just to let you know

good luck!!

Gee! I was annoyed when my premium went from 65 to 92 quid this year! Us old gits (39) have some advantages I guess. Its bloody ridiculous to quote that much - then they wonder why some young lads go and drive without insurance.
