Apart from FJ, who quoted £660 (:o) I haven't managed to get a quote for less than 3k from anywhere else, and I've tried everywhere. Even Adrian Flux wanted £3300.

When I was 18 having just passed my test I paid £1200 for fully comp with footman james, that was with a 1380cc engine and the car was valued at £4k

Footman and james told me they have stopped doing their classic car insurance now, so after this year everyone on it has to go to their normal insurance.
Try aviva, i got third party for £1000 on a 1.3 cooper. also put your parents as additional drivers, got mine down by £300

back to normal insurance? my mate had a letter last month asking if he wanted to renew his insurance with footman james. the price had gone up but they should still insure you,

I can't see why it's that high, mini's are the 5th cheapest car to insure. Get a Austin mini 1000 there the cheapest. :D

It might be cheaper to get your parents to insure the car for the first year then you can see what your quotes are the following year with one years driving experience and hopefully no accidents to declare.

I'm 40 and my insurance is £639 fully comp with 0 no claims as I have been a named driver on da missus account for years. That is with Direct Line. I am seriously annoyed as my 30 yo Brother has a 150+mph 2010 Ford Focus RS Turbo and his insurance is only (only he says) £600. I also had to add da missus to my insurance even though she is scared of the Mini, because it would of been £900 without her on the policy.

if you want it dirt cheap and your parents have trust in you get your most experianced driver out of your parents and have them as first driver with you second with someone like direct line as all named drivers used to get no claims bonus. its the way i did it saved me thousands because insurance for me was super expensive as i live in the arsehole end of kent (MEDWAY TOWNS birthplace of the chav) my first insurance when i was 17 was 2300 for a 900cc renault 5. i paid 550 with my dad as first driver and after the first year it went down so i got my own insurance then for 650 tpft as it was a moving dustbin.

Most of Medway (ME1 through to ME9) all falls under the same risk code (Low Risk) with ME3 coming out worst as a Medium risk area.

Yeah it could be better but considering where i used to live its a lot better!

I am tempted to try this Footman James, but i have read you don't earn any NCB with them?

Eh?? :o

Are you sure that it isn't just a case of them now restricting their classic policies to older drivers only? (i.e. all young drivers will now have to revert to standard insurance, but not ALL drivers). I spoke to them the other day about a classic policy and they certainly didn't mention anything about all classic policies being withdrawn, plus classic policies are still being advertised on their website.

You need to be very careful insuring your parents as the main driver, and yourself as a second driver, if they are not, it can invalidate your insurance and companies are getting wise to this! If they have a nice car sitting on the drive, what is the likelihood of them using the mini as their main car????

However, I am 29 and my dad is a named driver on my policy! He lives 280 miles away, but I insist he drives the car once a year, and it saves me a few quid!

The annoying thing is, the ridiculous price of insurance encourages people to drive without it, this pushes premiums up further and is a vicious circle!

Look into schemes like pass plus, security measures etc! My pass plus saved me 1/3 on my insurance when I was 18! £900 down to £555 on my E plate Citroen AX
