Yes actually i tryed them and the mini wouldnt power both of them together only the left one so better not buy them even if you have uprated alternator i still dont think they will work... need resistor or capacitor to bring the power down because they dont use alot of power apparently could be wrong! now have hids fitted and there mega bright for £45 cant go wrong either!

apart from the fact that hids are illegal and from next year or the year after you will fail your MOT for having them fitted!

Lets get a few thing scleared up here.....

has anybody ever used them or got them in, i can imagian they are going to be a hell of a lot more brighter but are they going to be illegal bright? any info or help would be brill :)

They are brighter, yes. Illegal, yes. LEDs produce a different type of light and are very directional. Whereas your typical bulb is non directional and hencee why they have reflectors/projectors to beam the light in the correct way. These are designed to work with standard bulbs only and not LED. modern cars are starting tog et LEDs but only with the applicable reflecting/projecting setup which minis never have!

As above but HIDs WILL fail you an MOT with a Mini next year.

apart from the fact that hids are illegal and from next year or the year after you will fail your MOT for having them fitted!

On some cars yes, on others no. On Minis its a definite fail as they have none of the requirements for HIDs

who said its just a matter of fact unplugging them for mot and sticking normal bulbs back in... Didnt think of that one did you ;)

HIDs require ballasts to be wired into the lighting loom so it isn't as simple as changing over bulbs for MOT time. HIDs aren't just super bright bulbs, they are more involved than that.

And every time you dazzle an on-coming pc plod?

Exactly! You can spot a HID converted car from miles away. Looks awful and chivvy and potentially blinds oncoming drivers whish increases the chances of getting hit by said driver!

If you didn't have HIDs on a car from the factory DO NOT BOTHER!

Clear?

Hid's are only legal if you have a projector lens, self levelling headlight and headlight washers. Bulbs have to be 55/60w to be road legal and have to be a certain colour, think its below 5kelvin but cant rember! Check to see if the bulb is e-marked and youll be fine!! (work for halfrauds)

It would still be illegal, yes the bulb might well be e rated. But the headlamp unit itself would have only of ever been e rated using a standard halogen bulb.

Which is why i said it, no led headlight bulbs available are e-marked therefore stick with standard filament bulbs

Hids i have have not been a problem with the popo they havent a clue what are different to normal, also i did not need to splice the wiring to fit in the ballasts they come straight out the packet and straight on the car.. plug straight into the orginal harness and just a case of hiding the slim ballasts in the engine bay simple as that... my lights dont seem to dazzle others as i have been in others car and gone past my car and seemed fine.

They might not be illegal but who doesnt have them now a days and if they was so much trouble they wouldnt sell them anymore.. What would you prefer dull boring lights that you can see the road with or hids that light up more of the road and use less power and look the shizz nip!

All because other people have them does not make it right. Would you jump off a cliff all because somebody else does?? no you would not.

Bear this in mind if they are not rated for your car and Mini's never came with them from the factory you have then modified your vehicle. Have you told the insurance company of this mod?? If not you are driving illegally and hence not insured.
