NB:
Could something like a shoe being misplaced have warped my new drum?

Wheek the drum off the other side and try it...if it spins freely then your new drum is kaput! If it still binds then your search continues...take a look at the other side to check everything is assembled properly..

I could be wrong here, but I'd say those shoes in the picture are wrong way round.

I've flipped pic, The red arrow is wheel rotation

The yellow arrow I treat that area of shoe as a lead in section so that section of shoes would be at the top on the passenger side of car. I've tried to find other brake pics and they aren't clear but do seem to show same setup I describe.

I'm currently putting my drums back together and, were it not for this post, would have put my shoes back on the way they were put on by the mechanic (the wrong way). Thank you Ethel!

Yes the wheel will be spinning clockwise in that example.

If you painted a line on the drum, the line when the wheel is spun forward should hit the section of shoe with less friction material first.
Its the same both sides of the car.

I remember it as "gap in direction of travel"

The gap at the end of the brake shoe goes in the direction of the wheel rotation!!

But using my line on the drum scenerio that makes it sound like the line hits the gap after travelling over the rest of the shoe.

All the diagrams I've found show the opposite

So by looking at your picture the space at the end of each shoe should be at 1 oclock and 7 oclock whichever way up you put the picture...
Take another look at the photo and you will see its exactly the same...So whats wrong with the photo..am I missing something?

Oh hang on! your picture is of the right side and the photo is of the left side...I get it now...

For simplicity are we agreeing the picture is right wording can be misinterpreted in some many ways
