Three or four synchro relates to the gearbox, so there will be no difference in power. Basically, when you change gear the synchromesh is what matches the speed of the gears for you. If you have no synchromesh then you have to double declutch to match the rpm yourself or else you will crunch the gears. Like I say though, on a three synchro box its only first gear that has no synchro, and this will not be a problem unless you want to change down into first while moving.
ok then TQ

Which is something that rarely if ever you do, so not much of an issue. Just don't forget or you'll look like a prat!

Four synchro, wihtout a doubt, I had a 3 syncro box - awlful noise trying to get into first
when coming to lights.

Which is why most 3 synchro boxes are wrecked.... as said above, you can't change into 1st while the car is moving or it will crunch, and unlike all the other forward gears in a mini gearbox ( and all 4 in a 4 synchro ) which are constant mesh gears, the 1st gear in a 3 synchro is a crash gear or sliding mesh, where the gear moves across to engage...
The reverse gear in all mini gearboxes is also a crash gear, hence why you can't change into reverse while the car's moving, and is also a good indicator of clutch wear.

Some of us learned to drive on vehicles with no syncromesh on any gears - in my case an RAF 1-ton truck, so the 3-sync Mini was no problem. In fact, on the early Minis the syncros soon went on the other 3 gears as well. Those were the days

back in the day of the pudding mixer gearboxes my dad says they never bothered with a clutch, just slammed it down with their hand. needless to say, gearboxes were being changed frequently...
Your dad might have done that but I didn't. Couldn't afford lots of gearboxes back then. Mind you, with my SC C R box I often change gear without de-clutching. Get the revs right and it just clicks in cleanly.
