My accelerator pedal has started to become stuck.

When I take my foot off the pedal it doesn't spring back to its original place, resulting in constant revving even when my clutch is dropped.

Been able to survive by pulling it back up with my foot each time I change gear, but its a real hassle and pretty dangerous.

Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it?

Cheers

Check the return spring is still fitted on the carb, if it is, it might have stretched, cut a bit off it and bend the end back round

Also, as above, check the cable isn't sticking!

Fit a NEW cable -don't mess about with the old one. It's probably frayed at the end and jamming . Some use bike gear cable to replace the original inner cable. Best to carry a spare cable at all times.

I had this problem many, many moons ago & did nothing about it. Then one night (in the rain on the M1) the cable snapped. Cost many $ to be put back on road by breakdown service. Check that the cable hasn't frayed & the 'jagged' bits aren't preventing the cable from returning. Fit a new cable NOW.

Replace the cable instead of gresing it, grease will cause jamming. If you really want, pull the cable out and spray some WD40 over it, but never use grease.

Could be the cable. Mine did this which was fun doing 70 up to a roundabout and it not slowing down  It was frayed and corroded badly as it went through the bulkhead into the engine bay. Easily replaced and worth it for such a safety critical part!
