Stimson Mini Bug Restoration Project
Posted Image

" Hi Here is 'Berty' my Stimson Mini Bug / CS+2. A rare Kit car but it seems that those who built these like to keep them (my personal opinion). I built it between 1979 -81 and used it for many years. GREAT FUN!
It has been in dry storage for over 10 years but I have recently lost this facility. So, rather than see it rot. I am selling. This is a fairly big project, please consider this before bidding. - although the mechanics are about as easy as you will get being mini based. I Strongly urge you to view the car as pictures cannot show what it is really like. Body looked good in its Gel coat so it never got sprayed. It is looking tired now so will need spraying. Engine/Gearbox/brakes are all 1275GT. I have fitted an unleaded head and Electronic ignition from a 1300 Maestro but still have the original head if required. Rear trailing arms are 1275 as well. Wheels are 12" Wellers. Chassis is excellent with some minor surface staining.
When checking the chassis over I removed a strip of the body panel to reveal the drivers side lower chassis rail (which is inside the body) - see last two pictures.
The chassis is fine but means that the section I cut out needs re-glassing. I recently added the Roll cage to support the Windscreen and add some safety- I was planning to place switches in the gap between the two centre rails and there are grommets in place with some wires. The floor is plywood and I sealed it with several layers of fibreglass when I built it. Body is made up of several panels all bonded together except for the Bonnet and front valance. The valance comes off for easy access to most of engine bay. It is properly registered on the V5. Being on a pre-63 plate tax will be free. It will need trailering and sorry I cant do this. ( There are plenty of people who can deliver - I did a quick search on ebay for 'car delivery' and found 10 people offering this service on the 1st two pages) Buyer is responsible for moving the car. What else?
I did have pod headlamps on the front bonnet which worked well but I was changing this to put the lights into the recess originally designed by Stimson. Has air horns and an electrical radiator cooling fan to help the standard mini fan. Has a custom made Fuel tank, not the original mini as is used on most of these. Insurance was always cheap. You can see a framework for a dash panel in picture 7. It used to be covered in Leatherette but the dials have changed from the original big mini centre dial to the 1275 dials, Hence the mess where holes have been filled in. The seats are not from this buggy and are abit wide for the cockpit. They are also pretty soiled as can be seen from the photos"

That looks like it should be amphibious!
