I fancy 2 removable spotlamps for my '72 mini which will do sprints and road rallies. I'd like some correct 70's spots with covers, Lucas or something? Does anyone know what was used in period? Also how about one for the bootlid? Good or bad idea?

Oscars are 180 mm (7,5 Inches)diameter and 122 mm (5 inches) deep. It is the depth part that makes them hard to mount on a Mini.
Cibie Tangos are similar in size to the lamps that came on the later Mini Coopers as an option and will easily mount to the rally light bars sold by Mini Spares and others. The Tangos are 125 mm (5 inches) diameter and 52 mm (2 inches) deep.

I see need a custome bracket made or something, i like it as it looks more unusual compared to normal spots. Would these spot lights only be on as high beam for would they be on for low/main beam also?

Those 20/20 look nice, the Oscars are HUGE!!!

I found some black Lucas covers on eBay, they look like ones fitted to early 70's minis. MiniSpares sell them too, will give them a ring, cheers.

ive got a pair of cibie oscars that im going to refurbish and finish in orange backs, with black rims to suit my orange/black clubman estate.

Plan to mount them under the bumper either side of the number plate, as I wont have room infront of the grill ;)

The Lucas ones most commonly used were the SLR700, but IMHO the Cibie Oscar is a better light pattern if you use the 'driving light' lenses as opposed to the long range spot lenses.
The Cibie Super-Oscars are also great and I think that they are still OK for road rallies next year.
If you want to see how I mount mine send me your personal email address and I'll email some photos of my lamp bars.

I have got Cibie Oscar plus spots and Lucas fogs ( yellow lens type ),the oscar plus have a flat back and would be easy to mount.
Mine came in a box of bits with the car and two plastic coated metal brackets which i believe were used on MK1/MK2 escorts.
There,s some pics in the show n shine section (under my mini )of my mini with the spots and fogs mounted,i put 100watt bulbs in the spots and they are brilliant.
