Took a couple of 10" wheels into the tyre place today to get the tyres removed. The fellow couldn't break the beads as the machine can't press the tyres off a 3.5" wheel. the comment was that he now takes tyres off a 10" wide wheel and not 10" diameter. The thought was, is a mini the last car produced with 3.5" wide wheels?

what sort of tyre place? trailer rims arent very wide and most tyre places manage them ok.

I did my own 10" wheels at work and I arent a tyre fitter, was just like doing any other tyre. Maybe they need to get better machines?

I dont know what width of more modern car steelies are, eg nissan micra and fiat cinq's . but the diameter is bigger ofcourse.

William has asked for his mums mini when he can drive

it did get me thinking that if you can still drive at 17 his car will be 58 years old

58 years before i learnt to drive was 1931 , that's a really old car

what will his mates be driving and what will they think of his 1965 mini ?

minis are a timeless classic

they are like a fine wine, the older they are the better they are (other than the rust ;D )

58 years before I learnt to drive (some would say I am still learning :shy: ), cars had Artillery wheels with solid tyres!
