I can't actually find where the radio was originally earthed. I can follow it back behind the dashboard, but then it gets lost.

Would that create a popping noise? The unit is grounded properly but Im considering trying a different ground?
As a test run a temp ground cable back to the Battery.

There are hundreds of combinations of things that could be causing the interference, it's just a matter of me finding out what it is!
I do have one question though;
Would something like this:

be worth buying, instead of me searching hopelessly for the ground loop that's causing it?
Of course I'd search around to buy the best thing for it. But I was just wondering on your opinion of them?
Cheers,
Simon.

Thanks though.

Check the polarity of your speaker wires and look for loose connections.
Have you tried running the ground wire from the head unit to the main ground of the car?
Might have to scuff the mounting point of the ground to make sure it's a good contact.
by the way, from my experience those noise supressors usually don't help much if any, plus its just masking the issue at hand.

I think that the ground wire from the head unit is already grounded to the main ground of the car. I'll need to take the dash off though to see if I can follow it.
Okay, cheers.

When you decide to as an amp make sure you have quality rca's not cheep ones and if you can run your rca's and spekaer wires away from each other. I usually run rca's down one side and speaker wires from the other. Also keep your rca's away from your power lines.
by the way what head unit do you have.
Pioneers are notorious for weak rca grounds, but there's an easy fix. Looks cheesy but it works. It basically grounds the rca's to the unit better. If you can solder it 's much cleaner.

My speakers are wired to the headunit. I think. Pretty sure actually

Ok so here's the problem, if you have engine nose in the electrics and you use a power inline isolator. And it works, you have only eliminated it from the headunit and it's output.
If you add an amp what's to say that won't pick up its own noise from the engine??
By all means try an isolator on the headunits power feed, but remember you are just treating the symptom not applying a cure to the cause.
Try the follow if you haven't already.
Run a clean new temp ground that goes all the way back to the battery. Also make a new ground point close to the unit and try that.
Again temporally un wire all the speakers and if you have a spare speaker wire that it on a short cable run. If you have no noise like this, then it points to a break in one of the speaker cables that is touching ground.

I do have a Pioneer, yeah. The model before this one: http://www.pioneer.e...7300/index.html
Looks practically exactly the same and has the same features.
But thanks again, and I'll have a look at all the grounds and things now I have the time.
