Hello!

Been looking at getting these for a while now..

Has anyone here bought this set before? Is it actually worth it? What's the build quality like?

What are the alternatives for less money?

Probably dreadful, as with most things from Mini Sport.

Cheapest option is to keep your standard 8.4" disc brakes, which are more than enough to stop most Minis. Is there any particular reason you want to change them?

If you do want vented discs, I believe the ones from Metros can be made to fit Minis. Doing it this way would cost you a lot less than £690.

The brakes and hub are in desperate need of a service and pretty scruffy looking. And noticed that there wasnt much price difference between these and the 'Standard' ones. I have looked at metro turbo ones before but all the ones i have seen need as much refurb as my current brakes, plus weigh a lot..

i brought a set last year for my project, were awful, not happy at all. had problems straight out the box. not best fit and the bleed nipples were stripped thread, had to send them back before i even used them and then they would not give me a refund or replace them sead they would fix them with helicoil i sead i was not happy with that, then he told me that they had done it many time before because it was a common problem...........???? fun fun fun. i would say spend the extra money and buy kad i wish i had now.
instead ever time i look at my project i see them and think what a waste of money
plus i found mini sport customer service really bad and very rude.

So why not just strip them apart and refurb them yourself? It's not that hard to do, for example the hubs can be cleaned up with a wire brush, and after a coat of paint will look as good as new. Even if you bought brand new calipers it would only cost around £300 in parts. If you just cleaned up and put new seals in your old calipers, the total refurb would only cost around £100. After doing that you would end up with a much better quality set of brakes than the £690 Mini Sport ones.

The very best option is to buy top quality standard discs from Mini Spares, re-con calliper kits, Mintex 1144 brake pads, re-build the swivel pins and fit new track rod ends if necessary. Check, wash out and re-grease the wheel bearings. Then you'll have excellent brakes under all driving conditions for a sensible price.
