As the title says about to start getting parts for my Mini 1275 engine from a 1993 rio currently doing a rebuild http://www.theminifo...-d/page__st__45

engine currently at engineers getting polished up and new bearings.

So time to start getting new parts in the only thing is not 100% certain on which bits to replace standard and which to upgrade.
  • Oil pump i have no idea which to get?
  • water pump is this worth replacing?
  • timing chain isnt duplex what implications does this change have?
  • new clutch thrust pad i can't seem to see them on mini spares without buying a whole new clutch.
  • Flywheel contemplating changing to ultralight so if i have verto the starter is engaged is this correct?
I sort of have an idea just not 100% so any help on the above would be great i've excluded simpler stuff such as gasket kits and cam followers

cheers

Oil pump definatly, which one you need is defined by what the drive is off the camshaft I.e slot drive.
Water pumps always worth replacing,
If you give minispares a ring they can normally supply parts like that.
Not sure about the verto thing, mines verto and I think I have an engages type not for sure tho

Good luck, I enjoyed doing my rebuid

Depends how far you want to go with your rebuild and also your money situation.
Personally I would change the chain regardless, also the sprockets, it all depends on how much running the engine has had with parts like that on. Depends on your money situation and how much you want to tune your engine, a verneir duplex allows for more acurate adjustment. With the solid ones to change timing this is done with a shifted key.

Its up to you really, you need to think ahead.... How long parts will have left in them, its worth doing stuff now so you dont have to do it later.....its also down to your budget.

When you say your block is being polished and new bearings, do you mean a rebore?

nope not reboring just polishing up getting rid of slight ridges not looking into major changes just slight changes at the minute.

I've heard the vernier duplex is the one to get might have a look into it cheers what are the sprockets?

Hey must be very slight, the bore has to be perfect and honed properly, the bores have to match each piston exactly, when I had mine rebored I had them match the bores to the pistons, even though they were brand new they are still Very slightly different.

The sprokets are the 2 "gears" the chain fits onto, its the sprocket thats the vernier adjustable bit, the chains just a duplex chain.

Don't need a tensioner with duplex kit.

well just spent £250 at minispares not sure how that makes me feel, probably happy when it arrives :(

So that is a new oil and water pump, new radiator and complete gasket set, some bits and bobs plus a new clutch breather and my cam followers.

still leaves timing chain for adjustable duplex £68 and lightened flywheel and clutch plate will wait for the engineers bill before deciding
